Good course and excellent content - WORST EXAM IN THE HISTORY OF EXAMS - AVOID THIS COURSE FOR THIS REASON ALONE
Let me start by saying I couldn’t give 0 stars.
The course content was excellent it’s for this reason that I give 1 star. It’s clear and concise and does exactly what you’d want from an IT course. However, the mock exam and even worse, the final exam must have been written by someone who’s first language is not English. Now, I’m very open minded and an advocate for equal opportunities and a champion for diversity but when there is a professional requirement for correct use of written English, an examination is that time.
I’ve copied some of the questions so you get the idea. I’m not at all worried about posting actual questions because I will go a step further and contact CourseGate directly and ask that they review the exams. Having scored 75% I was baffled by how that was the case. On quality control checking the given “correct” answers it transpires that I was right and the supposed right answers were wrong. This cost me marks.
Take a look at these questions which are directly from the final examination. Make your own mind up:
1. Why is it considered to check the virus on your PC when you are considering to upgrade?
a. you need to have fast PC to eliminate virus faster
b. your antivirus software needs new PC
c. the virus could slow down your PC
d. All of the Above
2. Programmers are inclined to take a good deal of _________ in their work. (this one is added here because it’s a stupid question)…..
a. amusement
b. satisfaction
c. vanity
d. humility
3. Which of the following is the most important question to ask yourself if you need to upgrade your PC? (um ok…. quality control?)
a. How long have you had your PC?
b. Have you checked for viruses?
c. Have you checked for viruses?
d. All of the Above
4. Which of the following should you do if your Monitor does not display anything? (and again)………
a. check to see if the cable is plugged in properly
b. you might need to replace the graphics card in this case
c. Both A and B
d. All of the Above
5. What do sex offenders try to do when targeting children?
My marked Answer :
Appeal to the child’s emotional needs
The apparent correct answer :
Upset family interactions.
Now I’ve got almost 20 years law enforcement experience and I would argue that this is absolutely wrong.
6. Where was BASIC developed?
Marked Answer :
Dartmouth College
Correct Answer :
Datmouth College WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! The answer is Dartmouth with a R as per my answer.
7. How can one easily learn how the computer works?
Marked Answer : through courses
Correct Answer : through writing easy programs WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an absurd answer
